City Of Greenville Tests Downtown Parking System For 90 Days

A new way to pay for parking in one Eastern North Carolina city starts Thursday.

Starting Thursday, two new pay stations will be placed in the Georgetown Public Parking Lot which is in front of Chicos. The other station will be in the Hodges Parking Lot off of Reade Circle.

In the past, folks would go to the pay station, enter the spot number they were in and pay. Under the new system, drivers will enter their license plate number at the stations.

Greenville Police believe the new system is a much more efficient way to track vehicles, rather than keeping track of the space number.

Code Enforcement officials say they will test the new system for 90 days. The price for parking will not change.

The current pay system will still be used for the other areas of Uptown where paid parking is required.
