Carteret Sheriff's Office: New Software Doesn't Make Sweepstakes Legal

The Carteret County Sheriff's Office says their interpretation of the law means the new software that many internet sweepstakes businesses have installed to stay open still is not complying with the law.

Captain Jason Wank with the sheriffs office says the department went to a statewide seminar where they explained the law to the agencies.

Wank says, "You're going to see as early as next week these Craven and Pamlico businesses quit soon, cause were all trying to get on the same page and what's good for Carteret should be good for Craven and Pamlico counties, being in the same district."

It's been two weeks since a court ordered ban on internet sweepstakes but there has been no consensus among law enforcement on how to enforce the ban.
