A local courthouse is ramping up its security efforts.
The Carteret County Courthouse will soon have manned metal detectors at their public entrances. County Commissioners gave the nod to move forward with the project.
Sheriff Asa Buck says visitors will be screened by walk-through metal detectors and bags will be searched to make sure no weapons are brought into the courthouse.
The $230,000 project will be funded through a capital improvement line item of the county's operating budget.
Sheriff Buck says the detectors should be in place by November 1.
