UPDATED: Elderly Driver's Car Strikes Convenience Store

An elderly Pamlico County man was charged after his vehicle struck the front of a convenience store this afternoon in Craven County.

The accident happened around 2:00 p.m. at the Handy Mart on Highway 55 and Broad Creek Road, east of Bridgeton.

Clyde Watson of Grantsboro told troopers that he thought his car was in park and leaned over to grab something and the car moved forward. His car took out a newspaper rack and broke the store's front panel and window.

The 85-year-old man wasn't hurt, and no one in the store was injured either. Watson has been charged with failure to put his car in park.
