Brief, Large Blackout In Downtown Greenville Thursday

There was a brief, but large power outage in downtown Greenville Thursday night about 6:00 p.m.

GUC says a major circuit that feeds a substation went out for 1-3 seconds and there was a bump in power from the ECU campus to the hospital, but the back up system kicked in as it was supposed to.

One person called WITN and said he was driving downtown when all the stop lights and street lights went out. Another person said she lives on the west side of Greenville and heard very loud noise and her lights blinked out.

GUC is investigating the exact cause.
