Bridge Renamed After Former DOT Board Member

North Carolina has named a bridge after former state Board of Transportation member who resigned his position as part of a campaign finance scandal.

The StarNews of Wilmington reported (http://bit.ly/YNUWRt) that Lanny Wilson attended a ceremony Friday at Screen Gems Studios where a bridge was renamed after him.

Wilson resigned from the state Board of Transportation in January 2010 as part of the scandal that led to the felony conviction of ex-Gov. Mike Easley, a Democrat.

There was little discussion of Wilson's resignation during the ceremony other than his own acknowledgement that he has combated tough times.

Transportation Secretary Gene Conti said the bridge renaming is a fitting tribute for a man who worked hard for the Cape Fear region. Republican Senate Pro Tem Phil Berger criticized the event.
