Crews Work Overnight On 20-Foot-Wide Sinkhole

Havelock officials said a water line break flushed out a large sinkhole that kept crews working through the night.

On Sunday, Havelock public information officer, Diane Miller said crews were working to repair a water line break near Joe's Branch and the bridge on Pineview Street in Havelock.

Early Monday morning, officials at the Havelock Police Department said crews discovered that water line break opened up a 20-foot wide, 15-foot-deep sinkhole.

City officials said crew worker overnight on the repair, and planned on continuing through Monday morning until the job was finished off.

Crews said water was shut off to the nearby neighborhood.

No word yet on when water service will be restored in the area.
