Boat That Inspired "Jaws" Now Calling Eastern Carolina Home

The boat that inspired the book and movie "Jaws" is now calling Eastern Carolina home.

The Cricket II was moved overland to Beaufort this morning from Connecticut.

The 42-foot boat was built in 1946 by Tiffany Boat Works for Captain Frank Mundus. Mundus fished out of Montauk, New York for 50 years, specializing in hunting down great white sharks. The writer of "Jaws" made several fishing trips aboard the boat, and said those adventures inspired his novel about sharks.

Cricket II will be restored and used to take veterans, wounded warriors and child cancer patients out fishing. A non-profit organization is being set up to operate the boat out of Beaufort.
