Boat Damages US 70 Drawbridge Near Morehead City

Crews have narrowed the lanes on the U.S. 70 bridge between Morehead City and Beaufort after a boat hit the drawbridge.

The Department of Transportation initially closed the bridge after a boat hit the structure on Saturday night.

Inspectors looked at the bridge and decided a 10-foot lane could be opened in each direction until further repairs could be made. More work is being done Sunday to try and open the entire bridge, but officials aren't sure when that might happen.

Authorities say the drawbridge will continue to open once an hour as needed.
