Big Rock Case Returns To Carteret County Court

The fishing boat team that caught a prize-winning blue marlin, only to lose it because of a tournament rule violation, is getting another shot at the big money.

The North Carolina Supreme Court has ruled to send the case over the boat Citation back to the court system in Carteret County. Big Rock Tournament officials stripped the Hatteras-based boat of the title in 2010 and $910,000 in winnings because its Virginia-based first mate did not have a North Carolina fishing license when the 880lb fish was hooked.

The ruling to reverse and remand the case to the local Supreme Court means the Citation has a shot at getting the big prize that got away.
