Chocowinity native Hattie Peed was born back in 1907, and Monday in Washington at the River Trace nursing home, her friends and family threw her a birthday party to celebrate her 106 years on earth. Hattie's mother lived to be 92. Her great-granddaughter Melva was pleased with the turnout to the party, but wasn't surprised there was a large crowd.
"Very loving woman, and just in terms of the community loving on her as long as they have...it just speaks to her personality and who she is," said Hatie's great granddaughter Melva Peed
Hattie says the secret for a long life is no drinking, no smoking, and keep your body clean.
