Bertie County Bank Robbery Suspect Faces More Charges

The suspect charged with an attempted bank robbery at a Bertie County bank is now charged in an armed robbery of a convenience store, and authorities say he had an accomplice in both.

In addition to the attempted robbery at Southern Bank in Roxobel, authorities say Randolph Hyman Jr. is now charged in the November 28th armed robbery of the Wilco Hess at 800 East Boulevard in Williamston.

Lawmen have also charged 27-year-old Velma Jevon Antoinette Coleman of Windsor in both crimes. They say she wrote the note in the attempted bank robbery asking for money and was also the getaway driver.

Hyman's bond was set at $225,000. Coleman's bond is $150,000.

Deputies didn't have to go far to arrest a man wanted for an attempted bank robbery in the east.

Bertie County Sheriff John Holley say they received an anonymous tip that Randolph Hyman, Jr. was seen at a home in Roxobel.

Holley say Hyman was located Tuesday afternoon less than 100 yards from the Southern Bank that he accused of trying to rob. He's facing attempted common law robbery and extortion charges.

Last Wednesday Holley says Hyman demanded cash from the teller, but never showed a weapon. He says Hyman is from the Williamston area.

The search is on for a bank robbery suspect in Bertie County.

Bertie County Sheriff John Holley says shortly after noon Wednesday, a man entered Southern Bank at 113 south Main St. in Roxobel and demanded cash from teller. A note was also left at teller's window stating, "If you move you will get hurt." The sheriff says the robber did not display a weapon.

The suspect is described as a black male approximately 6 foot tall, 169 pounds in his early to mid 20's with long black dreadlocks.

The suspect left bank the bank on foot heading east. He was wearing a medium blue cap, dark coat, white shirt with a design on the front, and blue jeans with white patches on rear pockets.

He may have left the area in a small gold 4-door vehicle.
