Seymour Johnson Airman Charged In Child's Death

Authorities at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base are investigating the death of a baby and have charged its father with murder.

Air Force Spokeswoman Linda Card told WITN that Airman Matthew Theurer is being held in the Sampson County jail on charges of murder, negligent homicide and voluntary manslaughter.

Card said the victim--who is at least 12 months old--was discovered Tuesday in a bag along a Columbus County road.

The spokeswoman said she does not know if the child died on base, but the case is being handled by Air Force prosecutors.
