NEW INFO: Washington Police Chief Leaving

Another police chief in Eastern Carolina says he is leaving. Washington police chief Mick Reed's last day will be February 29th.

Reed has been Washington's chief since June 2007. Last April he was a finalist for a similar job in Wrightsville Beach. But City Manager Josh Kay says he hasn't heard if the chief is resigning for a position somewhere else.

Kay has not outlined a specific timeline for Reed's replacement. "We have some great people in our organization who can step up and continue to lead the police department," said Kay. "I will work diligently to find a leader who can continue to work with our community and can continue to provide a high level of public safety to our citizens and businesses."
