The Highway Patrol says it will re-create Monday morning's accident between a moped and a Greenville police car.

The moped driver, 17-year-old David Haddock, is now in critical condition at Vidant Medical Center. Yesterday the Winterville teen was listed in serious condition.

Questions remain about whether Haddock's moped had its lights on when the collision occurred around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. First Sgt. Marvin Williams with the Highway Patrol says the Greenville Police Master Officer David Lawrence told the responding trooper, he did not see the moped's lights. The accident reconstruction team is looking into whether the moped's lights were operational at the time of the crash.

"We are treating the officer as if he was any other driver," noted First Sgt. Williams.

Greenville police say they are going to conduct their own additional administrative investigation.

Greenville police say a veteran officer collided with a moped on Highway 11 early Tuesday morning. The Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Greenville police spokesman Sgt. Joe Friday told WITN's Heather King than Master Police Officer David Lawrence collided with the moped on Highway 11 at Reedy Branch Rd. around 3:30 a.m. Sgt. Friday says he was told the moped did not have any lights on.

The driver of the moped was taken to Vidant Medical Center. Troopers say he's been identified at 17 year old David Haddock of Winterville. Vidant Medical Center says Haddock is in serious condition.

As far as Officer Lawrence, Sgt. Friday says he is "physically fine" but is "shaken up emotionally." Friday says Lawrence has been a member of the Greenville Police Department for 22 years. He was headed to his home near Ayden for a meal break when the wreck happened.

A collision between a Greenville police car and a motorcycle is under investigation, according to the Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday at Highway 11 and Reedy Branch Rd., near Pitt Community College in Winterville. Dispatchers say the call was reported to them as involving a Greenville police car.

One person was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, according to Winterville fire officials on the scene. Their condition is unknown.

At 5 a.m., a Highway Patrol trooper continued to investigate the accident and had blocked off the southbound lanes of Highway 11 at Reedy Branch Rd., detouring traffic.
