SBI Investigating Craven County House Fire

The State Bureau of Investigation is helping to look into the cause of a house fire overnight in Craven County.

Craven County Fire Marshal Ira Whitford says the house at 1120 Dry Monia Road, outside of New Bern, caught fire around 12:30 a.m. Friday. When crews arrived, the home was fully engulfed.

The person who owns the home was not there when the fire broke out, Whitford told WITN, but he has since been in contact with the homeowner. No one was injured, according to Whitford.

Craven County dispatchers say at least five fire departments responded to the blaze.

Whitford says the house suffered "heavy damage" as a result of the fire, and the condition of the house will mean a "pretty detailed investigation" into what started the blaze.
