Driver Charged In Greenville Transit Bus Accident

Winterville police have charged the driver of a car they say turned in front of a Greenville Area Transit bus Tuesday afternoon.

A dozen passengers on the bus were injured in the 2:35 p.m. crash at the intersection of Winterville Parkway and Fire Tower Road, in front of the CVS Pharmacy.

Police say the bus was turning left out of Pitt Community College, while a car on Fire Tower made a right turn on red into the bus' path. The bus driver said both vehicles were trying to get into the same lane and the car got sideswiped on the driver's side by the bus.

The car ended up on the sidewalk, and the driver was not injured.

Police have charged the car's driver with making an unsafe movement.

The fire department says there were 35 to 40 people on the bus at the time.
