NEW INFO: Greenville Police: Suspected Drugs Found At Murder Scene

Evidence collected at the scene of a Greenville murder Thursday night is pointing to drugs.

According to a Greenville Police report, two 1gram clear plastic bags with green leafy material inside were picked up at the scene of the murder on Griffin Street. Around 9:15 Thursday night, 26-year-old, Willie Smith was shot and killed. A second man, 23 -year-old Deontra Wilkes, was also shot and was at Vidant Medical Center Monday in serious condition. No word on any leads in the case.

One person is dead and another wounded after a shooting on Griffin St. in Greenville. The deadly incident is one of two shootings Thursday night that police are investigating.

Police say the shooting was reported at 9:15 p.m. on the 600 block of Griffin St. Crews took two shooting victims to Vidant Medical Center, and one of them died.

The victim in that fatal shooting is identified as 25-year-old Willie Smith. We're told he had two kids and another on the way. His family says he was an innocent bystander in the shooting.

The other victim is identified as 23-year-old Deontra Wilkes. He's being treated for multiple gunshot wounds in the lower body and legs.

At 1:15 a.m. Friday, police said they were canvassing the neighborhood near the South Greenville Recreation Center as part of their shooting investigation. Police planned to keep the crime scene secure through sunrise as they investigate. They also said leads have been developed in the case, but no motive is established for the two people getting shot.

Meanwhile, detectives are investigating the shooting of 30-year-old Koki Purvis of Hartford St. in Greenville. Police say he was found shot at King's Convenience Mart at the corner of Hooker Road and Greenville Blvd. around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Purvis as taken to Vidant Medical Center with one gunshot wound.

Police say the suspects fled in a dark colored Jeep.

Police Chief Hassan Aden tells WITN police do not believe the two shootings are related.

They say about 8:30 p.m. officers responded to King's Convenience Mart at the corner of Hooker Road and Greenville Boulevard. Officers found 30 year old Koki Purvis of Hartford Street in Greenville was shot one time and he was taken to Vidant Medical center.

Police say the suspects fled in a dark colored Jeep.

Then about 9:15 police responded to another shots fired call on Griffin Street off Howell Street near the South Greenville Recreation Center. No more details have been released in that case.

Police have not released a description of the suspects in either case.
