Winterville police have charged an elderly driver in a serious accident that tied up traffic Monday on Highway 11.
Police say 81-year-old Allegro Greene from Grifton turned in front of another pickup truck at Central Park Drive.
The force of the wreck caused that other pickup truck to roll over four times, throwing out its driver. 63-year-old David Joyner of Aulander remains in serious condition at Vidant Medical Center, while a passenger in his truck was released from the hospital.
The accident happened around 9:50 a.m. Monday.
Greene was given a safe movement violation by police.
One person was critically injured after a pickup truck rolled four times this morning on a busy Pitt County highway.
The crash happened around 9:50 a.m. at the intersection of Winterville Parkway and Beacon Drive.
The accident involved two pickup trucks and injured three people.
Police tell us a full-size pickup truck rolled over four times, and one of the people inside was thrown from the vehicle. A person inside that pickup was critically injured, but police aren't yet saying if that was the person thrown or not.
The other vehicle was a small pickup truck that police say was northbound and making a left turn onto Central Park Drive. The other pickup was southbound and the two collided.
Southbound traffic on Highway 11 was detoured for about an hour because of the accident.
