North Carolina will host a new plant planned by heavy-equipment manufacturer Caterpillar Inc. that will employ more than 500 employees and contract workers.

North Carolina's U.S. Sens. Richard Burr and Kay Hagan issued statements Friday praising the company's decision to build a factory in Winston-Salem.

The earth-moving and agricultural equipment factory is expected to employ about 390 full-time workers plus another 120 contract workers in five years.

A committee that approves state business incentives was expected to approve a tax rebate package that could be worth up to $50 million. Local incentives push the value of incentives to about $75 million.

Sites in South Carolina and Alabama had been in consideration.

To Moderators Nightmare. Did they actually lay off 500 people at the Clayton Plant, or did you hear that on Fox news?

We have the infrastructure. Look at the roads. 64, 264, I95, I40 and 17. We can move things quickly through the area with not nearly as much traffic and congestion found in the Piedmont region. What we lack is enough people who actually care enough to really want a career in industry. We have many people who want a paycheck but they aren't willing to do what it takes to earn it. If NC is the 4th laziest state in the country, then it must be due to the people in this area who just ride the system and don't want to work anyway.

They probably laid off 500 at the Clayton plant.
