A replacement has been chosen for a veteran city leader in New Bern.
Michael Epperson was appointed City Manager Tuesday by a 5 to 1 vote. The 45-year-old has spent the last 5 years serving as Deputy City Manager for Dublin, Ohio and is also the city's police chief.
He began his career in the Columbus suburb in 1988 as a police officer. The search for a new city manager began when veteran City Manager Bill Hartman retired in September.
The newly appointed Epperson says he knew coming to Eastern Carolina was the right decision.
Ed Wyatt has been serving as Interim City Manager since September. Epperson will begin serving August 31st.

Why is it that all these towns and cities in North Carolina feel they need to hire someone from out of state!!! New Bern is wonderful city, but at age 45 if Mr. Epperson will pull up and leave another state for this job how long do you think he'll stay? I'll tell you, after a couple of years experience it's on to a bigger city with a higher salary, so New Bern will be looking another City Manager in a couple of years. Hire local, reward your employees and you won't have to search to fill these vacancies every two to three years.
