Bertie County Sheriff investigators say they will soon find out how a three-year-old boy ended up dead inside a septic tank.
Bertie County Sheriff Greg Atkins says Malik McKinley Beverly was first reported missing by his babysitter around 8:30 Thursday night. Investigators found his body floating inside the septic tank in front of the babysitter's mobile home on Hexalena Road in Hexalena just after 9 p.m.
Sheriff Atkins says right now, this investigation is being treated as an accident, but foul play has not been ruled out.
