So far, there are no arrests. The Dover campus remains on lock down. Authorities say lessons learned from the shootings at Virginia Tech were put into action. They immediately notified dorm leaders to keep students inside. Classes were canceled for the day. Gates at the University's main entrance kept motorists out.
Friday, we found that some East Carolina Students are concerned about their own safety on campus.
University officials tell us students can register to receive text message alerts in case of a campus emergency. But we're told by university officials that only about two thousand students are currently signed up to receive alerts. About twenty five thousand attend the university. University officials tell us they plan to have a safety walk October 4th hosted by Student Government Association. The walk will be held in an effort to identify unsafe areas on campus.
