One Dead After Plane Slams Into Restaurant

Officials say that one person was killed when a small plane crashed into a restaurant this morning.

The plane plowed through front entrance of McCall's BBQ & Seafood Restaurant in Clayton. The town of about 10,000 people is roughly 15 miles southeast of Raleigh.

Kathleen Bergen is a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration. She says officials are only aware of one fatality.

The victim was believed to be the pilot. Witnesses reported no employees at McCall's were injured. A woman who lived near the
restaurant says it was preparing to open.

Bergen says the plane was a single-engine Navion built in 1947, registered in Chantilly, Virginia.

Bergen said officials don't believe there was a flight plan.
