Officials say a Marine has died in North Carolina from wounds he received two years ago in Iraq.

Illinois Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn's office says 27-year-old sergeant Nickolas Lee Hopper of Montrose, Illinois, died in Havelock, North Carolina, on Sept. 8. He was wounded in June 2005.

Hopper's mother, Judy, says her son enlisted in January 2001 after his younger brother joined the Marines and loved serving.

Hopper earned military honors including a Combat Action Ribbon,
