Grand Jury Indicts Former Congressman Ballance

A federal grand jury has indicted former Congressman Frank Ballance. The charges include conspiracy, mail fraud and money laundering. They stem from an investigation into a nonprofit drug abuse treatment program he started.

It's reported he channeled more than $2,000,000 to the organization while he was a State Senator. The indictment also charged Ballance's son, district court judge Garey Ballance. He reportedly received $20,000 from the Hyman Foundation to purchase a vehicle, but failed to file the money as income on his tax return, until more than two years later.

Ballance resigned his congressional seat earlier this year citing health problems.
