There are familiar names atop the list. Bill Gates of Microsoft
is number-one, with an estimated fortune of 59 billion dollars.
Warren Buffett is next with 52 billion.
The total net worth of those listed on the Forbes 400 is put at
1.54 trillion dollars, up 290 billion dollars from last year.
There's some "new" money there as well. Google's co-founders
Sergey Brin and Larry Page are both tied for fifth place, each said
to be worth more than 18 billion dollars.
North Carolinians to make the list are James Goodnight of SAS Institute in Cary, ranked 35th with 8.7 billion dollars. John Sall of SAS ranks 76 with 4.4 billion dollars. Clemmie Spangler of NC investments comes in at 130 with 2.9 billion dollars and O. Burton Smith of NC Speedway Motorsports is 317 with 1.5 billion dollars.
