Eastern Carolina Ferries Getting Searched

Investigators searched the headquarters of the state Ferry Division this week, but state officials won't say what the officers were looking for.

A spokeswoman for the state Attorney General says the State Bureau of Investigation is jointly investigating the Ferry Division with the US Environmental Protection Agency. She did confirm that the SBI searched ferry offices on Thursday.

Jan DeBlieu, Cape Hatteras coast keeper with the North Carolina Coastal Federation, says she has been interviewed by both the EPA and SBI about the unauthorized dredging of a channel by a Ferry Division boat in the Currituck Sound this spring.

Ferry Division officials say the dredging was unintentional.
