NC Officials, Golden LEAF Announce Relief For Farmers

State Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler has announced two programs that will help livestock producers transport hay to their farms.

The Golden LEAF Foundation has awarded the new Golden Hay Relief
Program a $500,000 grant. And the Ag Partners Hay Relief Program
has made $11,000 in donations available to farmers.

Troxler says the drought has caused about $80 million in losses of hay and pasture.

The Golden Hay Relief Program will help livestock farmers pay for transportation of hay and alternative feeds such as cornstalks and soybean hay. The program will allow about 300-thousand bales of
forage to be moved from eastern North Carolina to livestock owners
around the state.

The Ag Partners Hay Relief program will help farmers with transportation costs for hay purchased outside of North Carolina.
