Park Service Reopens Facilities On Outer Banks

It's business as usual today for the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, after Tropical Storm Gabrielle blew through.

The National Park Service says three campgrounds, Ocracoke, Frisco and Oregon Inlet, reopened at noon. Cape Point Campground is closed for the season. In addition, many commercial campgrounds in the Outer Banks area remain open.

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and the Wright Brothers National Memorial Visitor Center also reopened today.

The park service says in some areas visitors may still experience strong surf and rip current conditions in the ocean waters which pose a danger to swimmers. People are urged to use extreme caution when re-entering the water or driving on National Seashore beaches.
