Washington County Sheriff Indicted

Video will be available shortly.

Washington County Sheriff Stanley James has been removed from office temporarily.

Monday he was indicted on charges of embezzlement, as well as obstruction of justice and conspiracy. Prosecutors allege James took nearly $2,700 paid to keep a military inmate in the county jail.

Former chief jailer John Wrighton also was indicted on three related charges. Prosecutors believe James and Wrighton conspired to use some of that money for a banquet.

James has been sheriff since 1998.
