Governor Visits Eastern Carolina School

Students and staff at one Pitt County school got a pat on the back Monday by Governor Mike Easley for a job well done.

Easley visited Falkland Elementary School to praise students and staff for improving their test scores on state accountability tests and meeting adequate yearly progress goals for two years in a row.

The governor also asked President Bush to designate six counties in North Carolina as disaster areas. The request is to help pay for repair and cleanup costs from tornadoes and hurricanes in Beaufort, Brunswick, Columbus, Dare, New Hanover, and Pender counties.

Easley's Republican challenger, Patrick Ballantine, campaigned in Wilmington Monday.
