Watching After Pets During Tropical Weather

One thing you don't want to forget about during an impending storm is your pets.

If a hurricane does come near our coastline you'll want to have an emergency kit for your pets. Include, food, water, toys, a leash, a crate, medical records, and a photo I.D. should you get separated from your pet.

Mary Bennett, a veterinary technician with the Carteret County Animal Shelter says under no circumstances should you let your pet loose to fend for itself during a storm.

Pet shelters in eastern Carolina during a storm include the Jacksonville Commons rec center in Onslow County, and the animal shelter in Pitt County and in Beaufort County. You can check with your local shelter to see if they accept pets during a storm.
