State Senator Kay Hagan says she will decide soon whether to run against U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole.
Hagan is a Guilford County Democrat who says she thinks Dole can
Hagan wouldn't talk about the possibility while the General Assembly was in session, saying she needed to focus on finishing the state budget as one of the Senate's three chief budget-writers.
The session adjourned last month.
Hagan is one of three Democrats considering a U.S. Senate run.
Wake State Representative Grier Martin and Forsyth County
Commissioner Ted Kaplan also are thinking about challenging Dole.
Democratic Governor Mike Easley says he isn't interested. Easley
can not seek a third term. U.S. Representative Brad Miller said in
June he wouldn't challenge Dole.
