Graduate students and community college transfers have helped push enrollment at Western Carolina University past 9,000 students for the first time in the school's 118-year history.
The school in Cullowhee says it has more than 1,900 students in the graduate school in both traditional and distance education
classes. Graduate enrollment is up 230 students from last year.
Western Carolina enrolled nearly 600 community college transfers
this year, up from about 400 last year.
Last year's freshmen class totaled nearly 1,600 students. This year's freshmen class has nearly 1,300 students.
