New Bern Bank Robbed

Police say a gunman robbed an East Carolina Bank branch in New Bern this afternoon.

New Bern police say the man walked into the branch on Glenburnie Road shortly after 2 pm and held up the bank.

The robber is described as a white man in his 50's, wearing a burgundy polo shirt, khaki pants and a Virginia Tech ball cap.

The general description appears to be close to a bank robber who held up the Cooperative Bank in Jacksonville around the same time yesterday. That robber has not yet been captured.

In the New Bern robbery no one was hurt and no shots were fired. Police were using tracking dogs and a Highway Patrol helicopter in their serach for the bank robber.

The helicopter has left the skies where it had been flying since 2:30pm and we saw a highway patrol car going south on Amhurst, but have not heard if robber has been captured. This is really too close for comfort!
