As students prepare to move into residence halls at East Carolina University later this week, what changes in security will they see? One thing is security cameras. The university has spent the summer and nearly $400,000 adding security cameras to all entrances to every residence hall on campus.

This is just one thing taking the place of the independent security firm that was hired last school year following two reported rapes and hold-ups during the last spring semester.

University officials also say resident advisors will also monitor the doors and perform random ID checks. The university will also hold meetings with residents throughout the school year to educate students on ways to stay safer while living on campus.
