Drought Conditions Continue In Eastern Carolina

The new North Carolina drought advisory came out Thursday.

Officials are urging people to conserve water.

Governor Easley says North Carolinians should cut water consumption 20 percent because of the persistent drought. The governor is also telling state agencies to cut nonessential water use. Easley says stream flows and groundwater levels are approaching their lowest levels in recorded history. He says many reservoirs in the state are declining by one foot every ten days.

Most of Eastern Carolina is in moderate to severe drought. A severe drought has been declared in Beaufort, Bertie, Duplin, Edgecombe, Greene, Halifax, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Nash, Onslow, Pitt and Wilson counties. The rest of our area is experiencing a moderate drought. You can check out your county online by clicking on the link below.
