Police Searching For Purse Snatcher

New Bern police are asking for your help in catching a man responsible for snatching two purses and trying to steal a third one in two days.

Tuesday night just after 11 pm police got a call to the Wal-Mart store parking lot on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., where a woman said a man took her purse as she got into her car. Witnesses say the suspect drove off in a red-colored, older-molder Jeep 4X4 style vehicle.

Then Wednesday morning around 10:00 am, officers responded to a second purse snatching at the Harris Teeter store on Glenburnie Road.

Surveillance video shows a man approach a woman shopper’s cart and remove her wallet as she turned to look at items in the meat refrigerator.

A short time later, officers were informed by Wal-Mart management of an attempted purse snatching, again in the store parking lot.

Police say the suspect description is consistent in all three cases.

New Bern Police are looking for a white man around 5’9”, 175 pounds, early to mid 30s, with wavy brown hair. The suspect was last seen wearing a light blue shirt, khaki shorts and flip-flops.

Anyone with information is asked to call (252) 633-2020.

New Bern police remind shoppers to never leave bags or shopping carts unattended.
