Two Beach Homes Destroyed

An early morning fire in Atlantic Beach destroys two million dollar beach homes and lightning is to blame.

Officers say they received a call to the 100 block of Sandy Ridge about house in on fire. When firefighters arrived just after 1 am, the house was completely engulfed.

Investigators say lightning struck a power transformer, and traveled underground to the first house, setting it on fire.

Flames then spread to the home beside it. Fifteen fire departments responded to the blaze and were able to bring it under control just after four this morning.

Officers say no one were in the homes during the fire which is still under investigation.
