Ruling Handed Down In Outlying Landing Field Case

The Navy cannot keep buying property for an outlying landing field in Washington and Beaufort counties. Federal Judge Terrence Boyle issued that ruling denying the Navy's request. The Navy wanted to keep buying property while opponents fight the landing field in court. The latest ruling follows a March 30th order stopping work on the field until lawsuits filed by opponents could be settled. The Navy argued the national security need is so great for a field where pilots can practice aircraft carrier landings, they are willing to spend money even if they could ultimately lose the lawsuit.
