After a wild few weeks on Wall Street, you might wonder how eastern Carolina is faring financially. The Dean of ECU's college of business, gave his take at a luncheon sponsored by the Greenville-Pitt chamber of commerce.
Dr. Rick Niswander says while there's a lot that's uncertain, our state and region should fare slightly better than the national scene. That's because we have a strong inflow of people moving to our area, our housing market was not hit as hard as the rest of the country, and there is a diverse industry base. Greenville and Pitt county also have strong employment anchors in East Carolina University and University Health Systems.
When you look at overall industries in the our state, manufacturing is still number one, but it has fallen off dramatically since 1990.
