Camp Lejeune Marine Doctor Awarded Bronze Star

Medical officers in the military are rarely awarded with Bronze Star medals, but that wasn't the case for Captain Gene Conley at Camp Lejeune.

Conley was awarded with this high honor Thursday at the Jacksonville base.

Conley worked as a doctor in Iraq from March to October of last year. He saw more than 1,900 patients, responded to 33 mass casualty calls, and performed several life saving operations to critically injured Marines and Sailors.

Conley's service was needed day and night while under constant attack. He also treated over 2,300 Iraqi detainees.
