The extreme heat is causing traffic problems in Havelock.
The traffic light at the intersection of NC Hwy 101 and US Hwy 70 in central Havelock is experiencing spotty power problems, the city says is likely due to the excessive heat.
North Carolina DOT crews and Progress Energy crews were called to the site yesterday.
Havelock says the system controlling the 18 individual lights in that intersection is reading lower voltage than necessary to operate the system adequately. Crews are still working to locate the exact cause.
The city says that intersection will experience occasional outages while crews work to fix the problem.
