A 49 year old man from Grant, New Mexico died yesterday while swimming at Ocracoke.
Chief Ranger Nora Martinez says it happened around 11 am Monday near the park service campground.
The man was swimming with family and friends on a boogie board when they noticed the board came ashore. Minutes later they spotted someone trying to help the victim to shore.
CPR was administered, but the man died at the Ocracoke Health Center. Martinez says the man's death may be heart related and not due to drowning.
So far this year six people have died while swimming at the National Seashore, four of those attributed to drowning.
