Missing Boy Found Safe; Mother Arrested

The mother of a 16-month-old boy was taken into custody by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police hours after authorities issued a statewide Amber Alert for the child.

A spokeswoman says officers used a stun gun on 28-year-old Rene Rachelle Lazo late yesterday after she allegedly rammed a cruiser with her vehicle. Court records show Lazo is waiting for a trial on felony drug charges.

Police spokeswoman Julie Hill says the boy -- Enrique James Lazo -- appears to be fine.

The boy and his mother were found less than ten hours after the alert was issued. The boy's grandmother reported him missing and his father, Rick Lazo, says there had been issues about custody of
the boy.
