John Edwards Relying On Attorneys To Fund Campaign

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has talked to Wall Street experts and labor leaders since his 2004 campaign.

But the former North Carolina senator still gets much of his support for next year's campaign from wealthy attorneys who bankrolled his first effort. More than half of the Edwards donors who listed their occupations said they are attorneys. An Associated Press analysis of campaign finance data shows attorneys have given seven times more than any other profession.

New York Senator Hillary Clinton has gotten about 15 percent of her support from lawyers. Illinois Senator Barack Obama has gotten 18 percent of his money from attorneys. Both of Edwards' rivals have histories in the courtroom.

Edwards raised $23 million in the first six months of the year.
