Police are investigating how a man was hit by a passing freight train and injured in downtown Hickory.
But officers think Lester Glass may have leaned out too far over the tracks when he was struck in the head.
Police say Glass was in critical condition with head and hand injuries yesterday in Frye Regional Medical Center.
Captain Clyde Deal says Glass was near the front of the Norfolk Southern train when he was struck. The train was about three-fourths of a mile long and blocked some downtown streets for about one and a half hours.
Officials say the train was traveling west to Asheville with 70 empty grain cars and two locomotives.
