Greensboro Police Chief Wants Gang Unit

Greensboro's police chief says the city needs a gang unit like thos established in four other cities across the state.

The call from Chief Tim Bellamy follows four recent murders and a shooting at a nightclub.

Members of the city council say the city manager should re-examine the idea of a gang unit. A similar proposal never reached the table in the last budget cycle.

Right now, there's a six-man unit which spends part of its time
monitoring gang activity.

Assistant City Manager Bob Morgan says the council is suggesting
the city reallocate existing resources to see if a gang unit could be put together. Some council members say fighting gangs is a priority and the city needs to be willing to pay for it.

Why? Why would ANY city waste money on a "so-called" Gang Unit? They don't work! If they did, gangs wouldn't have spread to NC from CA! LAPD has anti-gang units, so does Little Rock PD. But guess what? They didn't and don't work! Great one Chief! Let's do the samething those others cities did...waste taxpayers dollars on a "NOT-A-SOLUTION." AT least it will appear you're doing "something." We need a HARDER solution.
