The Onslow County facility where authorities say an 80 year-old man fatally shot his 80 year-old wife, who was there for alzheimer's care, then turned the gun on himself, has nursing homes and care facilities examining their security.
Protecting your loved ones from another family member could be a difficult task, according to one nursing home director.
Bryon Eschelman of the Greenfield Place in Greenville says unless you putting metal detectors at the doors or have armed body guards, protecting clients from family members could be a very tough task. Eschelman says, "You're in talking to me about putting your mom in here and the next thing I know you come in here with a gun tomorrow. There's nothing, unless we shoot it out in the hallway, that's about the only thing we have of stopping you."
Eschelman says security at most nursing homes is designed to keep clients from wandering off.

Jesus, you are kidding right? The ONLY measure of security you could come up with is a metal detector, armed guards, and shooting it out in the hallways???? What about screening all visitors before they are allowed on the property? What about putting card access systems into place to limit who and when people can walk into doors? Certainly a "Director" could come up with something a little more creative to protect the patients that basically pay his salary! The bottom line, these nursing homes MILK the medicare/medicaid system for THOUSANDS of dollars per month, PER PATIENT!! They then hire $8 dollar an hour help, usually only 2 or 3 PER SHIFT, and basically sit back and reap the profits!
